MAJOR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CONVENTIONAL ANTI TUMOR & ALTERNATIVE HERBAL MEDICINES.

While most of conventional medicines are immunosuppressors, an approach in contrast to alternative medicines which boost immune system as a cornerstone mechanism to have a tumor healing effect. Herbal medicine approach is in line with GOD's system of healing endowed to humans.

The Immune System: Information about Lymphocytes, Dendritic Cells, Macrophages, and White Blood Cells

The Immune system is a complex network of cells (such as lymphocytes) and organs that work together to defend the body against foreign substances (antigens) such as bacteria, a virus or tumor cell.  When the body discovers such a substance several kinds of cells go into action in what is called an immune response.  Below is a description of some of the cells that are part of the immune system.
Lymphocytes Lymphocytes are one of the main types of immune cells.  Lymphocytes are divided mainly into B and T cells.
  • B lymphocytes produce antibodies - proteins (gamma globulins) that recognize foreign substances (antigen) and attach themselves to them.  B lymphocytes (or B cells) are each programmed to make one specific antibody.   When a B cell comes across its triggering antigen it gives rise to many large cells known as plasma cells.  Each plasma cell is essentially a factory for producing antibody.  An antibody matches an antigen much like a key matches a lock.  Whenever the antibody and antigen interlock, the antibody marks the antigen for destruction.  B lymphocytes are powerless to penetrate the cell so the job of attacking these target cells is left to T lymphocytes.
  • T lymphocytes are cells that are programmed to recognize, respond to and remember antigens.  T lymphocytes (or T cells) contribute to the immune defenses in two major ways. Some direct and regulate the immune responses.  When stimulated by the antigenic material presented by the macrophages, the T cells make lymphokines that signal other cells.   Other T lymphocytes are able to destroy targeted cells on direct contact.
Macrophages Macrophages are the body's first line of defense and have many roles.  A macrophage is the first cell to recognize and engulf foreign substances (antigens).  Macrophages break down these substances and present the smaller proteins to the T lymphocytes.  (T cells are programmed to recognize, respond to and remember antigens).  Macrophages also produce substances called cytokines that help to regulate the activity of lymphocytes.
Dendritic Cells Dendritic cells are known as the most efficient antigen-presenting cell type with the ability to interact with T cells and initiate an immune response.  Dendritic cells are receiving increasing scientific and clinical interest due to their key role in the immune response and potential use with tumor vaccines.
White Blood Cells There are different types of white blood cells that are part of the immune response.  Neutrophils or granulocytes are the most common immune cells in the body.  With an infection, their number increases rapidly.  They are the major components of pus and are found around most common inflammations.  Their job is to eat and destroy foreign material.  Basophils and eosinophils are white blood cells that contain large granules inside the cell.  They interact with certain foreign materials.  Their increased activity may lead to an allergic reaction.
The immune response is a coordinated effort.  All of the immune cells work together, so they need to communicate with each other.  They do this by secreting increased levels of a special protein molecule called cytokines that act on other cells.  There are many different cytokines.  Examples of these are interleukins, interferons, tumor necrosis factors, and colony-stimulating factors.  Some immunotherapy treatment strategies involve giving larger amounts of these proteins by an injection or infusion.  This is done in the hope of stimulating the cells of the immune system to act more effectively or to make the tumor cells more recognizable to the immune system.

COMPLEMENTARY & ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE.

ELLEN F. HUGHES, MD, PhD.
KEVIN BARROWS, MD.   (ref. Current Medical Diagnosis.)
The use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) has become common in the United States. To maintain effective clinician patient communication and ensure responsible clinical practice, it is important that clinician learn the theory, practice, and scientific evidence associated with these therapies.

GENERAL CONSIDERATION.

CAM is defined by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a group of diverse health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine, CAM therapies may be used alone as an alternative to conventional therapies or in addition to conventional, mainstream medicine to treat conditions and promote well being.
CAM modalities have been classified by NIH into five major categories;
  1. .Biology based practices use substances found in nature, such as herbs, special diets, or vitamins ( in doses outside those used in conventional medicine).
  2. Energy medicine involves the use of energy fields, such as magnetic fields or biofields ( energy fields that some believe surround or penetrate the human body). Examples include Reiki, external qigong, and therapeutic touch.
  3. Manipulative and body-based practices  use manipulation or movement. of one or more body parts (massage, chiropractic, Feldenkrais method and other ''body work'' systems).
  4. MIND BODY MEDICINE use a variety of techniques designed to enhance the mind's ability to affect bodily function and symptoms, such as biofeedback, meditation, prayrer, art and music therapy, hypnosis, and guided imagery.
Whole medical system are built on complete systems of theory and practice that have evolved apart from--and often earlier than--the conventional medical approach used in United States. Systems such as traditional Oriental medicine, acupuncture, homeopathy, naturopathy, Ayurveda, and Tibetan medicine often use one or more of the methods listed above.
Most people who use CAM combine it with conventional medicine because they perceive the combination to be superior to either alone.
In January 2005, the Institute of Medicine of the National Academics released a report on the use of CAM in the United States. They recommend ''health profession schools incorporate sufficient information about complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) into the standard curriculum at all levels to enable licensed professionals to competently advise their patients about CAM.''
Funding for biomedical research in this field increased when the NIH established the Office of Alternative Medicine in 1992 with an annual budget of $2 million. In 1998, its role was expanded as the National Centre for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM).  NCCAM's budget for fiscal year 2007 was $21 million.

IS CHEMOTHERAPY AFTER SURGERY,A WISE DECISION?

After a clean and complete removal of the tumor, there should not be any need of chemotherapy. If it is started with a thought to eradicate the tumor cells that might have escaped surgery decision will not be wise. Reason being, most anti tumor drugs whether they belong to anti mitotic, anti metabolite, alkylating group or any other group are cytostatic, meaning they do not kill tumor cells rather halt their division or growth and it is job of body immunity to kill left over dormant and resistant tumor cells through humoral and cellular immunity. Role of cellular immunity is more important in this respect. But in most of the cases weak immunity  because of disease itself, further weakened by the conventional anti tumor drugs is not sufficient .  Remission, because of tumor load reduction due to surgery and cytostatic effect of drugs, is not permanent,  and tumor relapses again. As drugs are cytostatic, body's other systems, in particular having rapidly growing cell get effected, resulting in horrifying side effects like hair fall, nausea, vomiting, loose motions, bleeding, sterility, susceptibility to sever infections and importantly reduced tumor immunity.
So, good immune boosters  having additional natural anticancer ingredients, like EASTERN PANACEA, and not conventional chemotherapeutic drugs, are better choice after tumor surgery.

IMMUNITY AGAINST TUMORS.

ROLE OF IMMUNE BOOSTERS

  • All components, specific and non specific, humoral and cellular effect tumor progression and growth.

ROLE OF ANTI OXIDANTS.

  • Major role is played in prevention of tumor development, neutralize the harmful effects of physical tumor inducing agents.
A compound containing a good quantities of  both immune boosters and anti oxidants, like Eastern Panacea, can prove to be an ideal food supplement.

MECHANISM OF ACTION OF CONVENTIONAL ANTI TUMOR AND ALTERNATIVE HERBAL DRUGS.

Most of conventional anti tumor medicines are non specific, invasive and effect other systems of the body, thus side and adverse effects are pronounced. For example anti mitotic drugs effect dividing cells, a property of tumor cells but in doing so, anti mitotic drugs suppress the growth of other systems and organs of the body too, such as immune system, blood, gastrointestinal system and skin. Hence side effects like decreased immunity, hair fall, nausea vomiting diarrhea etc.
While alternative herbal medicines in addition to actions of contained flavonoids, boost immune and general body defense systems and are safe.
